High-speed Passenger Rail, 110 MPH from West Palm Beach to Cocoa

 Akira Provided Quantity take offs for SJ Hamill for the "All Aboard Florida project" This project included a high-speed passenger rail service known as “All Aboard Florida” (AAF).  The project proposes “express” rail service between Miami and Orlando, with additional stations in Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.  

The service is proposed to operate on the Florida East Coast (FEC) rail corridor from Miami to Cocoa, which is approximately 195 miles, and along SR 528 from Cocoa to Orlando International Airport, which is approximately 40 miles.  The company proposes to operate hourly service from 6 AM until 9 PM, with 16 daily trains in each direction, totaling 32 trains per day.  FECI indicates the service would operate at speeds up to 79 MPH from Miami to West Palm Beach, up to 110 MPH from West Palm Beach to Cocoa, and up to 125 MPH from Cocoa to Orlando.

The scope of work included Excavation & backfill, Disposal & borrow, precast, structural steel & misc metals to include;

· Foundation piling & Rebar

· Cast in place concrete, form work and finishing

· Misc bridge items such as bearings, pads, joint filler, coatings

· Temporary support of excavation and demolition.

Radford Ammunition Fire protection upgrade

Akira provided cost coordination services to DTH Corporation. This project included providing cost analysis for 9 buildings on the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. The upgrade was to the fire protection system and Included upgrades to the plumbing and electrical system. This project required 3D laser scans of the original system that would be integrated into a smart 3D ModelScope of Work:

1. Fire Protection Install (includes 3D design 

modeling & calculations)

2. Pyrotech ultra-highspeed deluge equipment 

material & commissioning

3. Electrical Install of highspeed sprinkler control 

wiring & Fire Alarms etc.

5. 3D Laser Scanning & point cloud data generation to be used in 3D modeling.

Williamsburg, VA Art Museum Expansion

This project was started in March 2018 and completed in April 2018. 

Akira provided an independent cost estimate for Wysin Contracting. Wysin Contracting performed the foundation, concrete, earthwork and piles. 

Akira utilized the software “Bluebeam” to perform on screen takeoffs. Independent research was performed by utilizing RS Means data to establish a base estimate. 

Akira reached out to local suppliers to receive quotes that were compared to the initial base estimate.

Akira provided independent cost estimating services as well as 3D modeling services. This project was started in August 2018 and completed in September 2018.

NOAA Charleston, SC

Akira provided independent cost estimating services to DTH Corporation for the install of 2,300 s.f.of raised access flooring at the NOAA Charleston, SC location. Akira collaborated with local subcontractors by providing our proprietary independent cost analysis to the subcontractors to use it as a baseline for negotiation on behalf of the general contractor.

Akira's estimate was within 7.8% of the subcontractors estimated price to perform the work.  We submitted the subcontractors bid price to our client as their suggested bid price.

Malmstrom AFB- Montana Dormitory upgrades

 Akira Corp and Colby Burnam served as the Preconstruction Project Executive for this $5 million construction project of dormitory housing at the AFB Malmstrom in Montana. Hired by the project’s General Contractor, Colby and his team worked to gather and investigate data on the construction market industry to include sub-trade pricing in Montana to ensure that the project was competitively priced for the General contractors bid price.

 This project included cost estimates on replacement of all exterior windows and doors with blast resistant units and the replacement of the gutter and downspout systems, new interior finishes such as painting, flooring, counter tops and accessories, cabinetry, and upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, and fire alarm/notification systems.
